Who will win the Tigers vs. Guardians Wild Card Series?
Skubal Strikes Out 14: Tigers Take Game 1 over Guardians
The Detroit Tigers shocked the Cleveland Guardians in Game 1 of the 2025 AL Wild Card Series, winning 2–1 behind a dominant outing from Tarik Skubal, who racked up 14 strikeouts over 7⅔ innings. The Tigers scored the go‑ahead run in the 7th on a squeeze bunt and held on in the 9th thanks to bullpen resilience. Cleveland had outplayed Detroit during the regular season (winning 8 of 13 matchups) and staged one of baseball’s most dramatic comebacks to take the AL Central title. With momentum and pitching strength on their side, Detroit now has the chance to eliminate the Guardians on the road.
