How do you feel about the Red Sox acquiring Willson Contreras from the Cardinals?
Red Sox Land Willson Contreras in Major Offseason Trade
Three-time All-Star Willson Contreras is heading to Boston after the Red Sox acquired the veteran slugger from the St. Louis Cardinals in a high-profile trade on December 22, 2025. In exchange, the Cardinals received right-hander Hunter Dobbins along with pitching prospects Yhoiker Fajardo and Blake Aita, while Boston also got $8 million in cash. Contreras, who hit .257 with 20 home runs and 80 RBIs in 2025, brings leadership and power to a Red Sox team looking to reload its offense. Originally a catcher, Contreras transitioned to first base in recent seasons, helping extend his MLB longevity. A World Series champion with the Cubs in 2016, he now joins his third MLB team as a proven postseason performer. The trade has sparked strong reactions among fans and analysts, with debates over which team came out on top. As spring training nears, all eyes will be on how Contreras fits into Boston’s plans.
