Zohran Mamdani Surges in NYC Mayoral Race Amid Progressive Wave
New York State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani is gaining serious momentum in the NYC mayoral race, drawing national attention with a progressive platform centered on rent freezes, free public transit, universal childcare, and aggressive affordable housing development. Backed by major figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Mamdani’s campaign has struck a chord with Gen Z and working-class voters. Polls show him overtaking traditional candidates like Andrew Cuomo in ranked-choice simulations. While Mamdani has been praised for his bold policy stances, he's also drawn criticism over his use of activist slogans, such as “globalize the intifada,†which sparked backlash from Jewish groups. His campaign represents one of the most ideologically distinct bids in recent New York City political history.
