Curtis Sliwa Shakes Up NYC Mayoral Race with Fiery Debate Performance
Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels and longtime radio personality, is once again in the political spotlight as the Republican nominee for the 2025 New York City mayoral race. Known for his tough-on-crime stance and eccentric style, Sliwa is positioning himself as a public safety candidate amidst growing concerns over urban crime. During the October 16, 2025 mayoral debate, Sliwa garnered attention with his animated delivery and anecdote-filled responses, though some critics called his performance chaotic. He's polling behind Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani and independent Andrew Cuomo but remains a vocal figure in the race. Sliwa has claimed attempts to bribe him into exiting the race, though these allegations remain unverified. He continues to leverage his fame and populist messaging to energize his base. With debates heating up and polls shifting, Sliwa's campaign remains a wild card in NYC’s evolving political scene.
