Oregon’s Rowena Fire Forces Evacuations, Destroys Homes Amid Growing Wildfire Crisis
The human-caused Rowena Fire continues to rage through Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, forcing widespread evacuations and drawing a massive emergency response. As of June 12, the fire has burned over 3,500 acres and remains 0% contained. At least 20 homes have been destroyed, with over 700 homes evacuated and many more under warning. Governor Tina Kotek activated the state’s Emergency Conflagration Act to deploy additional firefighting resources, while shelters for residents and livestock have opened in The Dalles area. Key transport routes including Interstate 84 remain closed. Experts warn this early, wind-driven blaze may signal a dangerous wildfire season ahead, fueled by record low moisture and high temperatures.
